ANY LESIONS THAT ARE OF ANY CONCERNS TO YOU.

. . .

New Zealand has one of the highest incidences of skin cancer in the world.

RISK FACTORS FOR DEVELOPING SKIN CANCERS

– Fair skin

– Increased UV exposure

– Increasing age

– Smoking

– Previous skin injury such as burns

– Previous other skin cancers

– Strong family history skin cancers

– Immune suppression due to other diseases or medicines

THERE ARE THREE COMMON TYPES OF SKIN CANCER

– Basal Cell Carcinoma

– Squamous Cell Carcinoma

– Melanoma

One in fifteen New Zealanders will develop a melanoma which is the third most common cancer in both males and females. Melanomas are an aggressive type of cancer which spread easily. This type of skin cancer can occur anywhere on the body, not only in areas that get exposure to the sun. 75% of melanomas arise from normal appearing skin while the remainder appear within a mole or freckle. Occasionally they can occur in other areas such as mouth, lip, toes and eyes.

HOW THE SKIN STUDIO CAN HELP YOU REDUCE YOUR RISK OF SKIN CANCER

Our qualified doctor offers a consultation where he will review your risk factor, and then offer advice on UV protection, self skin examinations, and how often you should have a professional skin check.

WHAT’S INVOLVED IN A SKIN CHECK

You will have a full skin examination by a trained doctor looking specifically at any suspicious lesions with dermoscopy. If necessary, any possible cancers will be biopsied or excised, and sent for pathological diagnosis.

SCHEDULE A SKIN CHECK

If you are concerned about any new or changing skin lesions, it’s always safest to have these checked by our doctor. If detected early, skin cancers can be removed with minor surgery thus preventing the spread. Contact our clinic to schedule an appointment.
